HISTORY
On May 10, 2023 school administration from Crawfordsville, Frankfort, North Montgomery, Southmont and Western Boone announced intentions to form a new athletic conference with a premium placed on similar characteristics, pre-existing relationships, and competitive balance.
On May 19, 2023, school administration from North Putnam announced intentions to join Crawfordsville, Frankfort, North Montgomery, Southmont and Western Boone.
An informational meeting for the formation of the athletic conference was held in Crawfordsville, Indiana, on August 15, 2023.
On September 26, 2023, school administration from Cascade and Greencastle announced intentions to join Crawfordsville, Frankfort, North Montgomery, North Putnam, Southmont and Western Boone to complete the eight (8) school Monon Athletic Conference.
There were eight (8) founding member schools of the Monon Athletic Conference; Cascade, Crawfordsville, Frankfort, Greencastle, North Montgomery, North Putnam, Southmont and Western Boone. The school administrators that worked together to found and create the Monon Athletic Conference were; Brant Donovan and Scott Stevens of Cascade; Jay Strickland and Bryce Barton of Crawfordsville; Cindy Long and Ed Niehaus of Frankfort; Chad Rodgers and Doug Greenlee of Greencastle; Jonathan Guthrie and Matt Merica of North Montgomery; Jason Chew and Bart Jochim of North Putnam; Ashley Hammond and Aaron Charles of Southmont; and Brent Miller and Jeremy Dexter of Western Boone.
The name “Monon” was selected as a symbol of history and connection.. The eight (8) founding schools sit directly along or within the old Monon Railroad corridor that connected Chicago to Indianapolis and Louisville for nearly a century.
